Three ODY 6th graders developed their fiction writing skills with support from New York author Alicia Klepeis through the Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Honors Program.
The author — who writes books about animals, extreme environments, different countries, space and famous people — discussed her writing and editing processes with the students and shared where her ideas and inspiration come from.
The “Think & Write Like a Fiction/Nonfiction Author” workshop provided students an opportunity to learn the basics of writing their own story. The aspiring authors were given journals and brainstormed ideas that included development of characters, settings and plot lines.
