Four students stand outside the school bus ready to travel to the FFA competition

Members of ODY’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter participated in the District 5 FFA Leadership Development Competition hosted by the Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Central School District on Feb. 1.

Four students – senior Maxwell Pullis, seventh-grader Connor Doody, and sixth-graders Lucia Pullis and Zoey Rose – put their skills to the test before a panel of judges in Creed Speaking, Prepared Public Speaking, and Extemporaneous Speaking competitions.

“Our students put in a lot of time and effort practicing and preparing for these events,” said FFA advisor Mckensey Periard, “and they all did a great job! I think this experience has shown them that hard work, determination, and dedication pays off.”

Special shout-out to Maxwell for his outstanding performance in Sr. Creed Speaking and Sr. Extemporaneous Speaking! He will now advance to the sub-states leadership event.

The Extemporaneous Public Speaking Leadership Development Event requires students to demonstrate their agricultural knowledge and ability to think on their feet by giving a speech and answering questions with limited prep time. This event challenges students to practice their presentation skills, articulation, and analytical thinking and advocate for agriculture and agricultural education.

The Creed Speaking Leadership Development Event (LDE) recognizes outstanding FFA members for their ability to present the National FFA Creed from memory and answer questions related to it.
