Eleven ODY high school students are currently enrolled in College Now Sociology through Herkimer College. The equivalent to Herkimer's Intro Sociology, students who successfully complete the course may earn 3 college credits.
In studying sociology, students can better understand how societies work, how people interact, and how different structures, institutions, and cultural norms shape our daily lives.
Recently, students gave presentations on social stratification, which refers to the way people are ranked into social classes based on factors like wealth, education, and occupation. So far, they’ve explored topics like culture, sociological theories, crime, and more. Next, the class will dive into a unit on the family and subcultures.
